Godfrey man charged with attacking EMT

EDWARDSVILLE – A Godfrey man faces a felony charge after allegedly attacking an EMT Friday.

Nathan A. Thomeczek, 40, of Godfrey, was charged Aug. 28 with aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony.

The case was presented by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.

According to court documents, on Aug. 25 Thomeczek allegedly kicked an EMT in the groin and leg.

Bail was set at $50,000.

Other felony charges filed Aug. 28 include:

• Victor Smith, 34, of Alton, was charged with domestic battery (second subsequent offense), a Class 4 felony. The case was presented by the Alton Police Department. According to court documents, on Aug. 27 Smith allegedly struck a household or family member in the face, causing swelling. He has a conviction for domestic battery out of Madison County in 2022. Bail was set at $60,000.

• Alex V. Hardin, 45, of East St. Louis, was charged with domestic battery (second subsequent offense), a Class 4 felony. The case was presented by the Wood River Police Department. According to court documents, on Aug. 26 Hardin allegedly struck a household or family member in the head, casing swelling. He has a conviction for domestic battery out of St. Clair County in 2008. Bail was set at $75,000.

• Matthew T. Troeckler, 36, of Edwardsville, was charged with aggravated assault and reckless discharge of a firearm, both Class 4 felonies. The case was presented by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. According to court documents, on Aug. 18 Troeckler allegedly discharged a firearm in close proximity to the victim, putting them in “reasonable apprehension of receiving a battery.” Bail was set at $60,000.

• Matthew S. Kelly, 34, of Swansea, was charged with stalking and criminal damage to property over $500, both Class 4 felonies. The case was presented by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. According to court documents, on Aug. 23 Kelly allegedly committed a number of acts “which he knew or should have known would cause the victim to fear for her safety.” Those include causing in excess of $500 damage to the victim’s vehicle, approaching the victim outside their home and having contact with the victim after being served with an order of protection. Bail was set at $50,000.

These individuals have only been charged and remain innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. All charges may not be reported.
